A New Beginning
Before the beginning, thick darkness filled the silent, empty space.
Looking out into nothingness, God the Creator planned what He would create.
Then, He made the universe with His words, making something out of nothing.
He spoke, “Let there be,” and there it was!
Light burst forth, stars hung in the sky, and planets circled the sun.
Land formed into mighty mountains, rolling hills, and giant plains.
Rushing water poured into shimmering rivers, lakes, and seas.
Plants and trees sprouted and grew tall toward the sky.
Fluffy clouds floated through the air.
Wind whispered and wandered.
The sun dazzled during the day, and the moon reflected light at night.
Heaven became God’s sacred space, filled with eternal rest, divine joy and perfect peace.
Then, God filled the earth with life.
He made wild creatures that swarmed the water, soared the sky, and crept the ground.
Then He scooped up a handful of dust from the earth and shaped it into a man, bringing him to life with a simple breath.
Man and God stood face-to-face.
“I will call you Adam,” God said.
Adam explored God’s creation.
He listened closely to the birds when they opened their beaks, stretched out their necks, and sang songs.
He watched the shining stars put on their nightly show with twinkling lights.
He felt the rush of cold water between his fingers and toes and smelled the blooming wildflowers.
Adam loved the creatures and nature that surrounded him, but the Creator knew something was still missing.
He told Adam, “I will make someone to share your life with so you’re not alone.”
Then, He skillfully made a woman and introduced them.
Adam gazed at her with excitement and said, “At last! One like me!”
He named her Eve, and she became his perfect partner.
Creation stood marked with the Maker’s fingerprints all over the world. God smiled and said, “This is good,” and rested a while from all His work.
Not only did God’s words have the power to create the universe at the beginning of time, they also have the power to transform and redirect our lives when we need a new beginning. The same voice that brought light out of darkness and life out of emptiness is still speaking today. Amid our darkness, emptiness, and isolation, He can revive, encourage, and direct us onto a path that breathes new life and purpose into our weary souls. Ask the One who shaped the stars to speak something new to you. Then, partner with Him and watch His powerful words shape a new beginning in your life.
