Choosing Friends Carefully
“Godly people are careful about the friends they choose.” Proverbs 12:26 NIrV
Imagine you’re out for a walk or playing at the park when you spot a squishy, fuzzy, cuddly caterpillar wiggling its way down the sidewalk. It looks so cute and harmless, you might feel like scooping it up for a closer look. But wait! Those adorable, creepy-crawly insects can be tempting to hold and play with, but did you know that some types of caterpillars could actually hurt you if you picked them up?
These fascinating creatures are called the American Dagger caterpillar. They live near trees and have brightly colored, fuzzy-looking hairs. But here’s the surprise: those soft-looking hairs can actually cause your skin to burn, itch, or break out in a rash. Even though the caterpillars look harmless, getting too close can leave you with an uncomfortable sting!
Some people are a bit like those caterpillars—they might seem nice and friendly at first, but once you get to know them, you realize they aren’t always good for you. The Bible encourages us to be kind to everyone, but also wise about who we let into our close circle. Just like the American Dagger caterpillar’s spiky hairs can sting, some people can hurt you with their words or actions, or even encourage you to make bad choices. That’s why it’s so important to ask God for help when choosing friends who will help you grow and stay safe.
